In order to help the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School achieve its goals of being a national and international leader in artificial intelligence, technology, media, and telecommunications entrepreneur David McCourt has been appointed as an adjunct full professor.
The Economist describes McCourt as having perfect credentials as a telecom revolutionary since he is the chairman of National Broadband Ireland and the founder and CEO of the global investment firm Granahan McCourt Capital. Throughout his thirty-year career, McCourt has led significant partnerships with the corporate sector, governments, and organizations like the UN. He has also worked at the nexus of public policy, business, and society.
In addition to giving numerous talks to students at all levels on entrepreneurship, artificial intelligence, technology, and leadership, McCourt will serve as an Adjunct Professor and offer advice on thought leadership, program creation, and industry involvement.
David has been at the forefront of technology, media, and telecommunications for over 30 years and has been responsible for pioneering many industry firsts, said Professor Anthony Brabazon, Dean of the UCD College of Business. His skills and background as a businessman, a visionary in connection and technology, and a leader will be invaluable to the School as we develop our thought-leadership and instructional initiatives in the field of artificial intelligence. Digital technology will have a revolutionary influence on business and society worldwide, and He was thrilled that David will be collaborating with us to realize this goal in keeping with the School’s objective to lead transformative change.
Regarding his appointment, David McCourt continued, saying that it was an honor to become an adjunct professor at UCD and that he was particularly happy to support the school’s artificial intelligence initiative. As a television pundit, he has been a strong supporter of Ireland playing a bigger part in international affairs in order to assist build the groundwork for the ethical application of artificial intelligence. To help with this, we are kicking off The AI Wealth of Nations, a historic series of events, this summer. Ireland is honored to host the first stop of the tour, which will bring together some of the world’s most famous thinking leaders.
In addition to having an envied position as the home of practically every major tech company that has chosen to settle in Europe, Ireland has a legendary history of enacting bold and innovative policy decisions, such as electrification, the national broadband plan, free education, same-sex marriage, and making access to high-speed internet a birthright for all men, women, and children.
