Janine Lind Named President of Enterprise Community Development, Inc.

Janine Lind has been named as the new president of Enterprise Community Development, Inc. (ECD), a prominent non-profit developer and owner of affordable houses in the Mid-Atlantic region. ECD is a branch of Enterprise Community Partners (Enterprise). Her appointment will take effect on April 29.

Lind will oversee the Community construction division’s $1.4 billion portfolio of 115 communities serving 24,000 residents, as well as its high-impact residential construction, preservation, asset and property management, and resident services work. Lind will be based out of ECD’s Silver Spring, Maryland office. As a representative of the organization on the governing Operating Committee, she will make sure that Enterprise’s initiatives in the areas of Community Development, Capital, and Solutions are coordinated in order to strengthen Enterprise’s efforts to alleviate the country’s affordable housing deficit.

Lind will oversee the $1.4 billion portfolio of 115 communities run by Enterprise Community Development, which employs 24,000 people.

Shaun Donovan, president and CEO of Enterprise Community Partners, stated that Janine was an obvious choice to head our Community Development division and contribute to creating homes and communities that are places of pride and belonging because of her experience and commitment to mission-focused housing organizations. According to Janine, a home is more than simply a place to live; it’s a platform for success, equity, and upward mobility—values that are fundamental to all we do at Enterprise.

With a wealth of experience in affordable housing, property management, and resident services, Lind is an accomplished leader. She has held executive positions in housing providers in 28 states, managing portfolios of between 15,000 and 40,000 houses, with a great deal of experience in the Mid-Atlantic region. Her most recent position was as the inaugural chief operating officer of MidPen Housing Corporation, where she led the non-profit’s efforts to create and oversee superior affordable housing in Northern California.

The goals of our organization are perfectly aligned with Janine’s support for practical affordable housing solutions, according to Christine Madigan, the temporary president of Enterprise Community Development, who will take over as executive vice president at the end of April. “We are excited to collaborate in order to build and maintain vibrant communities throughout the area and provide vital services to the more than 13,000 homes we now serve across our expanding portfolio.

Apart from her time at MidPen, where she spearheaded the company’s expansion by taking on over 5,000 units that were awaiting construction, Lind has held executive positions at Cerberus Capital, Progress Residential, Edgewood Management Corporation, Guardian Management, and WinnCompanies.

According to Lind, Enterprise is well-positioned to lead the way in ensuring that more people have access to safe and affordable housing because of its breadth and depth of experience as a catalyst for systemic change. At a time when the Mid-Atlantic region is in dire need of affordable housing, he was excited to be joining Enterprise and heading the division’s efforts to construct, maintain, and oversee this type of housing.

The Permanent Supportive Housing Coalition, an eight-member nonprofit organization centered on enacting systemic and legislative change in the Bay Area, was founded by Lind. She has also held memberships in the National Multifamily Housing Council, the National Apartment Association, and the Housing Partners Insurance Exchange as an advisor and board member. She has previously chaired the legislative and regulatory affairs committees of the Affordable Housing Management Association as vice chair.

Lind graduated from The American College of Applied Arts with a B.A. in marketing, Marylhurst University with an M.B.A. in real estate, and the Harvard Kennedy School with multiple certifications.

Enterprise is a nationwide nonprofit organization that works to enable the millions of families that don’t have a decent place to live. In addition to building and managing communities ourselves, we also support local community development groups, gather and deploy capital for effect, and advocate housing policy at all governmental levels. We have built 951,000 houses and invested $64 billion in all 50 states since 1982 with the goal of transforming homes and communities into hubs of strength, pride, and community.
