G.J. Hart to take over as Red Robin’s President and CEO

Paul Murphy, the current president and chief executive officer, has informed the Red Robin Board of Directors that he plans to retire at the end of 2022 when his employment contract expires. Mr. Hart will take over for Mr. Murphy.


For the purpose of facilitating a seamless leadership change, Mr. Murphy will continue to serve as a special advisor to the Company until March 31, 2023.

The most recent position held by Mr. Hart was Chief Executive Officer of Torchy’s Tacos, a privately held fast-casual concept with more than 100 locations, from 2018 to 2021.
Prior to that, from 2011 to 2018, he served as California Pizza Kitchen’s Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
Mr. Hart held the position of President of Texas Roadhouse Holdings from 2000 to 2004, and from 2004 to 2011 he also served as Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Texas Roadhouse Board.
Prior to joining Shenandoah Valley Poultry, Mr. Hart held executive positions with Al Copeland Investments, TriFoods International, the New Zealand Lamb Company, and others.

With nearly 35 years of experience in the restaurant business, including work for both public and private companies, Mr. Hart is a highly regarded executive who is renowned for his organisational leadership abilities, dedication to profitable growth, and capacity to increase long-term shareholder value.

Red Robin Gourmet Burgers, Inc. has revealed that G.J. Hart will take over as the organization’s president and CEO on September 6, 2022.
In addition to his responsibilities as CEO and President, Hart has been a member of the Red Robin Board since August 2019. He will keep doing so.
