Thames Valley Police appoints Dennis Murray as Assistant Chief Constable

Since joining Northamptonshire Police in 1991, Dennis Murray has accumulated more than 30 years of experience. In June of last year, he was awarded the Queen’s Policing Medal (QPM) for his outstanding work in boosting diversity and establishing new methods to police usage and examination of powers such as stop and search. ACC Murray began his career with Northamptonshire Police in 1991 as a member of the Special Constabulary, before becoming a full-time officer the following year. Following that, he worked in CID and local policing, where he was excited about collaborating with diverse groups. ACC Murray received the David Ryan Memorial Cup for his work with Muslim communities in Northamptonshire, the Pride in Northamptonshire Award for his hard work and determination in community engagement work, and the Brigadier Lomond Award for designing effective and efficient immersive training that was recognised as good practise and received international recognition during his service in Northamptonshire. ACC Murray was elected Chair of the Northamptonshire Black Police Association in 2014, where he continues to encourage officers from Black and Ethnic Minority communities. He was seconded to the British Transport Police (BTP) as Chief Superintendent lead for Trust, Legitimacy, and Community Policing in November 2020.
