The largest public health group in the country, Truth Initiative, works to create a society in which youth refuse to smoke and vape and where anyone may give up the habit. Our influence has contributed to the historic low of 2% in 2023 for the prevalence of youth smoking, which was 23% in 2000. As the use of e-cigarettes threatens to expose a new generation to the risk of nicotine addiction, we are leading the battle against it with our nationally renowned truth® public education campaign and industry-leading cessation services. Our youth e-cigarette prevention curriculum Vaping: Know the truth® is being used in over 9,000 schools nationally, and our first-of-its-kind text messaging quit vaping program This Is Quitting has enrolled approximately 700,000 young people countrywide. One of the most important public health campaigns of our time is still being won because to our thorough scientific research and policy studies, innovative tobacco dependence treatment, and community and youth engagement programs that support people at high risk of consuming tobacco. Our organization, which has its headquarters in Washington, D.C., was founded and is supported by the 1998 Master Settlement Agreement that was reached between the tobacco industry, attorneys general from 46 states, and five U.S. territories.
