Sophy Lu has been appointed as Northwell Health’s new chief information officer, the organisation said today (CIO).
John Bosco, who served in the position from 2004 until his retirement, is succeeded by Ms. Lu, a 12-year veteran of the healthcare system.

Senior vice president Ms. Lu, who formerly held the position of deputy CIO, will be in charge of one of the largest digital information and technology departments in the healthcare industry, with more than 1,900 team members and 3,000 solutions at the ready for administrators and caregivers.
The strategic direction, talent, information, security, technology, and service delivery for the health system’s digital transformation and integrated product innovation are among her new responsibilities.

Ms. Lu began working for Northwell in 2010, and in 2017 she was appointed chief applications officer.
Before being named deputy CIO earlier this year, she assisted the business there with its long-term digital technology ambitions.
As an applications officer, Ms. Lu was in charge of the efficient implementation and upkeep of digital administration systems.

During a critical period for the digital transformation of healthcare, Ms. Lu has more than 20 years of expertise in both the healthcare industry and international information technology.
Prior to working at Northwell, Ms. Lu contributed to the planning and construction of an Indonesian liquefied natural gas project as well as the design of a number of air separation plants for the industrial gas sector.
She graduated from Bucknell University in Pennsylvania with a bachelor of science in chemical engineering. (Northwell Health credit)
