Greg Cornett, a 25-year utility sector veteran, was chosen president of Rhode Island Energy (RIE), according to a statement released by PPL Corporation today

Dave Bonenberger, who is taking on a new position as PPL Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Utilities, will be replaced by Cornett as of March 4.

Even though Bonenberger’s position is evolving, he will still be in charge of making sure RIE smoothly switches to PPL systems and procedures as it prepares to end its remaining transition service contracts with National Grid by the middle of 2024. Furthermore, Bonenberger will oversee utility operations for PPL.

PPL is also elevating Vice President of Electric Operations Alan LaBarre to RIE Chief Operating Officer in conjunction with Cornett’s appointment. LaBarre has been providing utility services to towns throughout Rhode Island for 35 years. In order to guarantee RIE clients receive safe, dependable energy delivery, he will supervise operations related to natural gas and electricity.

Greg is a fantastic choice to lead Rhode Island Energy into the future because of his strong leadership abilities, in-depth understanding of the utility sector, collaborative personality, and unwavering dedication to our goal, according to PPL President and Chief Executive Officer Vincent Sorgi. “He joins Alan and a very capable and seasoned group of local leaders who are entirely committed to fostering a sustainable energy transition and improving our communities while providing our consumers with safe, dependable, and reasonably priced energy.

Cornett is PPL’s Vice President and Deputy General Counsel at the moment. He was Director of Legal Services and Associate General Counsel for PPL subsidiaries Kentucky Utilities Company and Louisville Gas and Electric Company before taking on his current position. Prior to this, he worked as an equity member for a sizable Kentucky legal practice, specializing in the utilities industry.

Cornett expressed his excitement about collaborating with many stakeholders to ensure a sustainable energy future for Rhode Island Energy’s clientele, citing it as an honor to lead the organization. “Rhode Island Energy is in a unique position to assist the state in achieving its energy and climate goals while maintaining energy affordability and improving customer reliability. He was eager to help the long-term growth and success of the state as we seize this opportunity.

RIE is a member of the PPL group of businesses. Over 770,000 consumers in Rhode Island receive vital energy services from the company in the form of natural gas or electricity supply.
