As of March 4, Cornett will take over for Dave Bonenberger, who is moving on to a new role as PPL Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Utilities.
Although Bonenberger’s role is changing, he will still be responsible for overseeing RIE’s seamless transition to PPL processes and systems as it gets ready to terminate its remaining National Grid transition service contracts by mid-2024. In addition, Bonenberger will be in charge of PPL’s utility operations.
Along with Cornett’s appointment, PPL is also promoting Alan LaBarre, Vice President of Electric Operations, to RIE Chief Operating Officer. For thirty-five years, LaBarre has offered utility services to towns all over Rhode Island. He will oversee natural gas and electricity operations to ensure that RIE clients enjoy dependable, safe energy supply.
Vincent Sorgi, President and Chief Executive Officer of PPL, said that Greg is an excellent fit to guide Rhode Island Energy into the future due to his strong leadership qualities, comprehensive knowledge of the utility industry, cooperative nature, and steadfast commitment to our mission. He joins Alan and a very capable and seasoned group of local leaders who are entirely committed to fostering a sustainable energy transition and improving our communities while providing our consumers with safe, dependable, and reasonably priced energy.
Cornett currently serves as both the deputy general counsel and vice president of PPL. Prior to assuming his current role, he was Associate General Counsel and Director of Legal Services for PPL subsidiaries Louisville Gas and Electric Company and Kentucky Utilities Company. He was an equity member of a large Kentucky legal practice that focused on the utilities sector before this.
Citing it as an honor to lead the company, Cornett stated his excitement about working with numerous partners to secure a sustainable energy future for Rhode Island Energy’s consumers. With its unique position, Rhode Island Energy can help the state meet its energy and climate goals while preserving energy affordability and enhancing customer reliability. As we take advantage of this chance, he was keen to support the state’s long-term development and prosperity.
